Second edition of GIISMUN proves to be a platform of idealism

The 2nd edition of the Global Indian International School Model United Nations Conference was declared open on July 21 2017 at the GIIS Chinchwad. The two day conference with the theme of “We are the WORLD”- proved to be a platform of prolific debate and discussions on issues of international concern for which intervention of the future leaders is of paramount importance. GIIS Chinchwad MUN is a pioneering step taken by GIIS Chinchwad towards adding a new dimension to the holistic development of children.

With over 200 participating delegates in ten committees which are The United Nations Historic Security Council (UNSC), African Union, The Conference of Parties 22, World Health Organization, ASEAN Regional Forum, Conference of Empowerment of women, SPECPOL, ECOFIN, SOCHUM and United Nations Development Programme, this conference proved to be an extremely enriching experience.  Schools from across the city participated which includes Victorious Kids Educares, Indira National School, SES Gurukul, Akshara International School and The Lexicon International School. Ardee School from Gurgaon and GIIS Campuses from Indore, Noida, Ahmedabad, Surat and Bangalore also added the national flavor to this conference.

The inaugural ceremony simulating the General Assembly of the UN was an overwhelming beginning to the MUN conference. As the School Choir lent melody to the theme through the famous inspiring song “Let there be love amongst us”, it stirred the souls of all delegates to extend a promise for a peaceful world. The Chief Guest for the inaugural session was Mr. Ajay Das Gupta, master storyteller, facilitator and social entrepreneur.

The Secretary General, Sidharth Anandkumar, in his introductory address, urged the youth to gain moral and economic empowerment in order to pave way for a bright illuminated future without divisions. He stated that at GIISMUN, students will sharpen their knowledge by participating in high level debates, doing intensive research, learning to work as a team to draft resolutions besides gaining knowledge on conflict resolutions, negotiations and consensus building. He also introduced the Executive Board of all five councils and declared the conference open with his inspiring words, “Discuss/ Deliberate/ Decide”

Principal, Dr Amrita Vohra said, “We are unfortunately in a time and era where shadows of intolerance and disparity are looming at the world at large an therefore to bring in resolutions that will help in establishing peace and order it is imperative to sensitize the youth towards international relations. MUN is a great platform for this and it helps students to understand global politics through their research and deliberations.”

The conference concluded with the Valedictory Ceremony where felicitations were done for Best Delegate, Special Mention and High Commendation awards for each committee. The Chief Guest on Day 2 was Mr. G.K. Pillai CEO and Managing Director of Walchandnagar Industries Ltd. who inspired the students with his talk.
