Winning isn’t everything; but wanting to win is

The 3rd GIIS Sports Day, was held at the Balewadi Sports Complex on a vibrant and euphoric note. It is an event much awaited by students and teachers alike and applauds the talent of GIISians. The whole atmosphere vibrates with a strong house spirit. The staffrooms, classrooms, hallways and the sports field are all abuzz with the talk of the house athletes, house teams and points to win and lose. The event that took place over a period of two days was a euphoric mix of physical fitness and agility, nail biting races, outstanding talent displays, colorful drills and spectacular cultural performances for the closing ceremony.

The opening ceremony was laced beautifully with a salutation from all the four houses in a regimented march past to the exhilarating beats of the School band. This was followed by the flag hoisting and lighting of the torch. Signifying the symbol of peace amidst the joyful bursting of paper crackers, balloons were released depicting freedom and flight. The School Choir with their exuberant performances set the pace of the event and lent an exhilarated sense of winning among all.

The Chief Guest for the opening ceremony on day 1 was Ms Inderdeep Nanda, Manager TIMES NIE. She in her address spoke about the importance of physical activity in one’s life and congratulated the students for putting up a spectacular show. The sports meet for the juniors were laced with events and races that were a sheer visual delight. Ball Drag with Tyre, Plantation Run Race, Crossing The Bridge and Ball Shuttle were some of the races held for the junior group. The show was a fantastic display of harmony and rhythm as the students performed drills and gymnastics to everyone’s applause. The school also had the parents participate in fun events.

For the second day, the ceremony was graced by Mr Dinesh Waghmare, IAS, PCMC Commissioner who applauded the school for organizing a brilliant event. He also congratulated the school and Principal on all the endeavors taken by the school towards Swachh Bharat and Community care. His imperative dialogue on team spirit and importance of sports was highly motivating for our students.

The closing ceremony was adorned with a mesmerizing cultural performance that brought the gathering cheering and applauding. There was jubilation and enthusiasm as the GIISians brought to life diversity of India which was celebrated with pomp and splendor.

The Sports Champion House- Jal were also awarded with a trophy and the entire event was conducted smoothly and efficiently under the supervision of the staff, teachers and sports department.
