Yet another milestone was achieved, as history unfurled a new chapter at GIIS Chinchwad with the inauguration of the rooftop sport facility, DHYANCHAND SPORTS CENTRE. With a sprawling area of 6,000 sq ft and on a gigantic height of 20 feet, the sports centre is a new age, state-of-the-art facility extended and presented by the school for its aspiring and budding sporting talents. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ritwik Bhattacharya, international squash player.
The cheerleading team with their enthusiasm and cheer welcomed the guest to the facility. The crowd cheered as the Chief Guest entered the arena. With a beautiful overcast sky, the weather made a perfect backdrop for the function and only heightened the spirits of one and all. A high energetic performance by the cheerleader team got everyone grooving and applauding while a beautiful and mesmerizing rhythmic gymnastics and yoga got the audience enthralled vindicating the talent at GIIS.
The Chief Guest along with Principal Dr Amrita Vohra and Ms Vaishali Borde, National Head for CCA and Eary Years, GIIS India unveiled the plaque which within it embossed a huge chapter of the school’s history. A friendly football match of fifteen minutes was held where two teams of our senior students played against one another giving a befitting beginning to the making use of the facility. The audience cheered as the match was played and concluded at 1-1. The Chief guest Ritwik Bhattacharya kicked off the ball to mark the occasion.
The Chief Guest in his address urged the students to make optimum use of the facility and encouraged them to play sports. He also shared with them how sport fields are essentiality the playgrounds where multiple skills are learnt. He concluded by giving them the mantra of “Keep playing, be healthy”.
Principal Dr Amrita Vohra on the occasion said, “The Dhyanchand Sports Centre will house facilities like football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and badminton. It is a moment of pride for the school to own a facility which is one of a kind and most importantly is loved and appreciated by the students. It gives me happiness as I see my students enjoying the most beautiful days of their life playing a sport that makes them happy and forms a basis of excellent camaraderie.”
