‘Books are thy best friend’ is an idiom which epitomizes the beauty and enrichment which books add to one’s life. One good book is like having a 100 good friends who facilitate you to grow, learn and empower yourself with talent. It is rightly said that nothing ignites imagination better than a good book and this is realized most with the tiny tots.
Our pre primary section devoted one whole week to books and their magic. From reading books to picture books, story books to concept books, our children were given a whole lot of books to explore and learn. Reading helps children in a variety of ways. A session on storytelling was held where the stories provoked curiosity, imagination and discussion among the groups. It was very satisfying to see young children ask questions and discuss with their teachers about that particular story. Listening to these stories also assists in the development of literacy skills and language development. Large Picture books have always been a child’s favourite and the little squeals of joy vindicated the same. Picture Books help readers to develop an appreciation for art and enhance the reading and writing skills of the children at the same time providing a ground for inspiration, thought and reflection.
Little wonders were also taken to an open garden space for a reading time with nature. The purpose was this was to expose children to a wide range of elements of nature, plants and our flora and fauna. This also helped to develop their language features and vocabulary to a great extent. Children were also given a flavor of communication in the ancient age. They practiced scroll writing on dry papyrus leaves and their wonderful creations were put on display. A reading corner was put up in the heart pf the pre primary premise of the school.
